Portico

A complete re-imagining of a Georgian-inspired country home

Set in a leafy South-East county, this brick-and-stone residence has been elevated from dated manor to contemporary estate. Our brief: create light-filled, free-flowing interiors, add signature amenity spaces, and strengthen its curb appeal, while respecting the building’s classical proportions.

Key interventions at a glance

Statement front portico in hand-cut natural stone announces arrival and improves symmetry.

Full-width rear extension with floor-to-ceiling glazing merges indoor living with the landscaped garden.

Pool house & outdoor leisure zone enable year-round wellness and entertaining.

Discreet car port keeps vehicles sheltered without dominating the vista.

Comprehensive interior overhaul delivers five generous bedroom suites, a 60 m² lounge, open-plan kitchen-garden room, and a self-contained studio perfect for flexible family living.

Landscape architecture stitches the new elements into a cohesive estate: mature planting, native hedging, and a re-graded driveway enhance biodiversity and arrival experience.

Design narrative

Respecting heritage while embracing modern life

The refreshed façade retains its Georgian rhythm of brick pilasters and sash-style windows, but the bespoke limestone portico lends a refined focal point. To the rear, a single-storey extension uses slimline aluminium frames and clerestory glazing to flood the interior with daylight and create uninterrupted garden vistas.

Inside–out living

Large sliding doors pocket away to blur the threshold between the 44 m² family kitchen and a south-facing entertaining terrace. Durable porcelain tiles run inside and out, visually enlarging the floor plate and providing a hard-wearing, low-maintenance surface.

Interior architecture & finishes

Bespoke joinery: Rift-cut oak panelling, concealed pivot doors and built-in storage keep lines clean.

Material palette: Calacatta marble, patinated brass and smoked oak flooring evoke understated luxury.

Wellness suite: The pool house incorporates a gym, steam shower and bar for après-swim relaxation.

Smart home integration: Whole-house lighting, HVAC and security are app-controlled for efficiency and peace of mind.

Sustainable & technical highlights

Upgraded building envelope with high-performance insulation and triple-glazed units.

Air-source heat pumps serve under-floor heating throughout.

PV array positioned on the south roof slope reduces operational carbon.

Rainwater harvesting feeds garden irrigation to minimise mains consumption.
